Textures > Armour

So far I've created 9 different tileable mail textures. I also wrote a PDF explaining how I create them (also available here).

N.B. The normal maps included with these textures are NOT correct. They are in the Blender axis system, not the Poser/DAZ Studio one. It's simple to correct this - simply invert the green channel, and then invert the red channel too.

***N.B. DS Material Presets fix uploaded seperately at http://www.sharecg.com/v/55177/view/11/Poser/Fixed-DS-Mats-Fot-Tileable-Mail-Textures-1-And-2 *** The first two in a series of tileable mail textures. Each consists of four 512x512 PNG images (texture, bump/displacement, transparency, and normals). Textures 1 and 2 are both European-style '1 in 4' (i.e. each ring connects to four others) Mail 01: the rings are as widely spaced as possible, resulting in plenty of space to see through the mail. Mail 02: the rings are much closer together with hardly any gaps. I've also included Poser 6 materials (and DS material presets, though they have some problems) for applying each texture to Lourdes' freebie M3 Normans Outfit (used in the promo pic), available here at ShareCG http://www.sharecg.com/v/27632/gallery/11/Poser/M3-Normans-Outfit. Don't forget to check out the readme!

** DAZ|STUDIO MATERIAL PRESETS UPDATE ONLY *** N.B. There's no point in downloading this unless (1) you've downloaded my 'Tileable Mail Textures 1 And 2' from ShareCG or Renderosity freestuff, and (2) you use DAZ|Studio. This download just contains corrected DAZ|Studio Material Presets (.dsb) files for applying the aforementioned mail textures to Lourdes' freebie M3 Normans Outfit, plus a couple of new .dsa files. Provided you extract the 'DAZ Materials' folder to the same place as the original then the old, incorrect DAZ|Studio materials files will simply be overwritten. There are two new DAZ|Studio Material Presets plain text (.dsa) files for each mail to help in applying these tiled mail textures to any item. See the readme for details. The materials have been tested in DAZ Studio 3, but see the known issues in the readme. (Note: the materials look best in moderate close-up. Too far away and they just look semi-transparent grey. Too close and you begin noticing all sorts of little flaws. Don't be afraid to play with the parameters on the surfaces tab!) For more information see the original download at http://www.sharecg.com/v/54624/browse/11/Poser/Tileable-Mail-Textures-1-And-2 or http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=65483 *** DAZ|STUDIO MATERIAL PRESETS UPDATE ONLY ***

This my second release in a series of mail textures. It consists of four separate mails. This time it's Japanese-style 'kusari gusoku' (literally chain armour). Kusari01: 'Hitoye-Gusari' - each of the circular links is connected to four others, forming a repeating square pattern. Kusari02: 'Hana-Gusari'- each of the circular links is connected to six others, forming a repeating hexagonal pattern. Kusari03: 'Hitoye-Gusari' with square 'kikko' (metal or leather plates). Kusari04: 'Hana-Gusari' with hexagonal 'kikko'. Each mail texture consists of five 512x512 PNG images (texture, bump/displacement, transparency, ambient occlusion, and normals). I've included a Poser material (.mt5) and DAZ|Studio shader preset (.dsb) for each mail to allow you to apply the texture to any item. I've also include Poser material collections (.mc6) and DAZ|Studio material presets (.dsb) files to apply the textures to the coif, gloves, pants, shoes, tabard, and tunic from Lourdes' free M3 Normans Outfit (sorry, I couldn't find a freebie ninja, samurai or ashigaru outfit, though I'm sure there's some around...) The shader and material presets have been tested in DAZ Studio 3 and Poser 6. Please see the readme for more information. The samurai helmet and mask in the 'terracotta samurai' image is Daramski's ShareCG Samurai Helmet for Poser freebie, the katana is from Arki's Renderosity Katana set for M3 freebie, and the shield is a cardboard cut-out I made! ;o)

This is my third release in a series of mail textures. The release contains three seperate mails, inventively called 'Scale01', 'Scale02', and 'Scale03'. You've guessed - this time it's actally scale armour. (We won't get into that "but scale isn't mail", "yes it is", "no it isn't" argument) Scale 01: A pointed scale, based on memories of movies when I was a kid! Scale 02: A rounded scale, based on a Japanese 'gyorin kozane' scale armour. Scale 03: A flat, oblong scale based on Roman 'Lorica squamata' Each mail texture consists of four 512x512 PNG images - texture, bump/displacement, normals, and ambient occlusion. For each mail I've also included a Poser 5 material (.mt5) file for applying the texture to any item, plus Poser 6 material collection (.mc6) files for applying the textures to Lourdes' free M3 Normans Outfit. Similarly for DAZ|Studio users each mail has a DS3 shader preset (.dsa) file for applying the texture to any item, plus DS3 material presets (.dsa) files for applying the textures to Lourdes' free M3 Normans Outfit. DAZ|Studio users get a few extras - some sample DS3 shader preset (.dsa) files to give an idea of the range of effects you can create, and a few DS3 shader preset (.dsa) files that simply set various tiling values. (Apologies to Poser users - no samples or tiling helpers. My eyes were beginning to ache and I decided to call it a day!) Because scale armour has a definite orientation, I had to do a simple remap of Lourdes' M3 Norman's Tunic so that the scale orients correctly on the sleeves. All other clothing items were acceptable with the original mapping. I've included the remapped tunic OBJ, and an edited CR2 that uses it. I'm 99.9% certain this is in accordance with the 'derivative' part of the license terms for Lourdes' original model, waiting for that final 0.1% confirmation! As always, please take a look at the readme.
